Music fuels my soul. Brings life to my day. Hype Machine has been such a huge part of my music search and enjoyment. Glen (My Boyfriend) introduced me to Hype Machine a while back. If you don’t listen to Hype Machine you really should! Click here to get started.
This is a list of my obsessions this month so far. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
BØRNS – Electric Love. Michigan native, Garrett Borns, Debut album is about to be released this month. So far everything I have listened to is pure magic. “The Emotion”, “10,000 Emerald Pools”, “Seeing Stars”, “Electric Love” are definitely an awesome start to a hopefully unbelievable album. I am already a bit obsessed with this indie/psych pop artist and can almost assume good things are ahead.
Vance Joy – Fire and The Flood. Australian native, Vance Joy has been sneaking up on us. This man has made huge strides in the last few years. The Australian football player to Indie folk artist, Vance Joy is headed in the right direction. I love Fire and the Flood. Check out Wasted Time as well its another good one of his. there is also a bunch of great remixes for these songs on Hype machine.
Arkells – Leather Jacket. Canadian Band from Hamilton, Ontario making waves in Alt Rock world. Backed by Dine Alone Records along with others like City and Color, The Lumineers, Monster Truck and many more. Big things are definitely coming for this band. “Leather Jacket” lyrical storytelling is almost at a Springsteen level. I love the lyrics, the catchy melodies and anthem style presentation. Arkells are well on there way in the Canadian market and I’m very sure there is much more to come.
HONEYHONEY – You and I. On their third album, the musical pair Ben and Suzanne have such a raw, rugged sound. There are so many folk/country/rock influences. I love the strong raspy vocals of this alternative folk group. I want to drink red wine and sit on my deck listening to this band all night long. So many good songs to pick from, also try Yours to Bear, Burned me out, and Marry Rich.
Mates Of State – Staring Contest. This song has made it on so many of my playlists lately. This husband and wife indie pop duo from Kansas, Released a new album earlier this year that I feel like i will be hunting down soon. I can’t get enough. “Staring Contest” makes me want to drive to the beach and run around barefoot at 1 am. I love the innocent recklessness this song expels. I am excited to hear more from them very soon.
Metric – Dead Disco. This song makes me a bit nostalgic. This is the song that made me a longtime follower of Metric. Back in 2003 this band was just breaking water as the new wave style was turning a corner and creeping up our charts. Metric Burst into the post punk scene with staying power. I stumbled across this version of the song on Hype machine this month, just as I am enjoying the Toronto based indie rock bands new album “Pagens in Vegas” six albums in, and true to sound as always. Check out new album as well.
Dear Rouge – I Heard I Had. Another husband and wife duo on my list today. Dear Rouge is a Alternative Rock band based out of Vancouver, BC. I love her fiery vocals and the addicting beats make me want to turn it up as loud as I can. Also they are touring right now. So hopefully I will see them live soon! This Band has so much potential I’m sure we will hear more great things from them very soon.
