Healthy Protein Hot Chocolate Smoothie

This healthy hot chocolate smoothie is perfect for the colder months to help keep you energized and on track even through those blustery winter days. It does indeed involve both a blender and a stove… but I promise you that the extra step is so very worth it. Not only does it mean you get to enjoy a warm and cozy smoothie, but the heat helps thicken up the oats and make the smoothie super creamy and delicious.

It really tastes like a cup of creamy hot chocolate, but it’s made with good for you ingredients that you’d normally enjoy for breakfast, like oats, maple syrup, and almond milk… with a bit of cocoa powder.

Its definitely not a good idea to add any hot liquids to your smoothie maker (it could either shatter the glass (if you have a glass jug) or it’s going to come bursting out with a lot of pressure when you open the lid after whizzing things up). I blend everything together cold then pour into a pot and heat on the stove.

Healthy Hot Chocolate Smoothie

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl or the pitcher of your blender and let sit for 3 hours in the fridge or overnight is ideal. This step isn’t completely necessary but make the smoothie much creamier and very smooth.
  2. When ready to eat blend until smooth and creamy.
  3. Pour the smoothie into a saucepan over medium heat and bring to desired temperature. if to thick add more milk to thin the consistency.
  4. Pour into a mug and enjoy
